Coding in the new era

Today we can use AI tools to turn plain language instructions into working code (eg. "make a login page" or "build a simple game"). These tools don't just speed up boring tasks, they also generate design, solve real problems.

How programmers are changing

Presumably developers are now thinking more on how to utilize their broad picture understanding to get to the next level. They can act more like system designers, ecosystem builders, etc.. Also, this will in theory make coding more accessible to beginners. The seismic shift is that the technology unifies the roles more seamlessly.

Challenges

Still, with respect to production quality there are things to keep an eye on - messiness, security and reliability issues. AI code agents are amazing but they need proper context, which can be a tricky. An inapt analogy is its ok to drive on cruise control in the open highway with no one around but its a way more complicated task to pull off in the busy city.
